Set against the colorful and spirited backdrop of the Ivory Coast in the 1970s,\u00a0Aya of Yop City\u00a0is a vibrant, beautifully animated adaptation of the best-selling series of graphic novels by co-director Marguerite Abouet.Aya is 19, and she loves her neighborhood of Yop City in Abidjan, where everyone knows each\u00a0other. It\u2019s always lively, with open markets, colorful fabrics, funky caf\u00e9s and music\u00a0everywhere. Her mom Fanta is the neighborhood\u2019s most trusted healer. Her dad is a sales rep\u00a0for a brewery, and certainly gets his fill of the product. While Aya has dreams of becoming a\u00a0doctor, her two best friends, Adjoua and Bintou, just like to hang out and spend their evenings\u00a0dancing, drinking and flirting with boys. Their ambition is to follow Plan C: Combs, Clothes and\u00a0Chasing Men! But big trouble comes to town when Adjoua realizes she\u2019s pregnant, and the baby\u2019s father is the spoiled son of one of the richest and most feared men in the whole country.
