Synopsis<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

A mammoth wall of speakers rises up against an ochre backdrop of towering cliffs in the Moroccan desert. A thumping bassline rises and a rave dance party, chockablock with techno-nomads, suddenly erupts. Enter a stricken Luis, his young son in tow and handing out flyers in search of his missing daughter. Thus begins \u00d3liver Laxe<\/strong>‘s suspenseful, apocalyptic, truly spectacular existential odyssey, featuring a stunning performance by Sergi L\u00f3pez and a cast of non-professional actors. \u201cIs this what the end of the world feels like?,\u201d one character asks. \u201cIt\u2019s been the end of the world for a long time,\u201d another replies.\u00a0(Given its extreme violence, this film is recommended for those over 17 years of age.)<\/em><\/p>\n

Director’s biography<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00d3liver Laxe<\/strong> is a French-born Spanish writer, director and actor of Galician\u00a0ancestry. After writing and directing three short films, he made his first feature, You Are All Captains<\/em>, which premiered in the Director’s Fortnight section of the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, where it received the FIPRESCI Prize. His second feature, Mimosas<\/em> (2016), filmed in the Atlas Mountains, won the Nespresso Grand Prize in the Critics’ Week section in Cannes, the Golden Pyramid at the Cairo International Film Festival, a Grand Jury Award at the Seville European Film Festival, a Special Jury Prize at the Taipei Film Festival, and a Lumi\u00e8re Award for Best French-Language Film. His third feature, Fire Will Come <\/em>(2019), was selected for the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes, earning the Jury Prize, as well as nabbing a Best European Film Gaudi Award, a Goya Award for Best Director, and a Golden Alexander at the Thessaloniki Film Festival.
