The year is 1983. Daniel is in California.\u00a0 He has a revelation and returns to Paris with a message… and several tabs of LSD. “I\u2019m giving up bass. It\u2019s all about decks now. I’ve seen the future.” Inspired by the burgeoning American DJ culture, Daniel metamorphoses into Dee Nasty and puts out the album Paname City Rappin\u2019<\/i>.\u00a0 Meanwhile, over in Saint Denis, Bruno and Didier throw themselves into the new hip-hop scene. A year later, graffiti artist Vivi makes a splash. All the pieces are now in place for a decade of profound cultural change to unfold, culminating in the birth of the legendary rap group NTM before the season’s 1991 conclusion. Engaging characters, political undercurrents and a kick-ass soundtrack made this exploration of the Paris underground music scene a huge hit at this year’s Series Mania Festival, where Reign Supreme<\/i><\/b> walked away victorious, with the International Grand Prize in tow.<\/p>\n

Katell <\/b>Quill\u00e9v\u00e9r\u00e9<\/b>\u00a0met her ongoing creative partner, H\u00e9lier Cistern, while studying philosophy at the Universit\u00e9 Paris-VIII. Her first short film, <\/span>\u00c0 bras le corps<\/span><\/i> (2005), was screened in the Cannes Director’s Fortnight, where it won the Gras Savoye Award. She cowrote her third short, <\/span>Escape<\/span><\/i> (2009), with Cistern. Her first feature, <\/span>Love like Poison<\/span><\/i> (COLCOA 2011), won the Prix Jean Vigo; <\/span>The Staple of News<\/span><\/i> aka<\/span> Suzanne<\/span><\/i> (COLCOA 2014) was screened in Cannes and nominated for a C\u00e9sar Award for Best Original Screenplay; and <\/span>Heal the Living<\/span><\/i> (2016) was nominated for a C\u00e9sar for Best Adapted Screenplay. <\/span>H\u00e9lier Cistern<\/b>‘s short, <\/span>Second Skin<\/span><\/i> (2006) won several festival prizes, and <\/span>Les Paradis Perdus<\/span><\/i> (2008) won the Prix Jean Vigo and was nominated for a C\u00e9sar Award for Best Short Film. Cistern’s first feature, <\/span>Vandal<\/span><\/i> (COLCOA 2014) garnered the Prix Louis Delluc.
