Nadia Nadim is a survivor.\u00a0 <\/span>A fighter.\u00a0 <\/span>She’s feisty and funny.\u00a0 <\/span>She was born in Afghanistan, where her father, a general, was brutally executed by the Taliban when she was a child.\u00a0 <\/span>Fearing for their lives, Nadia’s mother sold their house, packed up her five daughters, and paid a smuggler to get them out of the country. So in 2000, at the age of 12, Nadia suddenly found herself in Denmark.\u00a0 <\/span>Today, Nadia is an international soccer star. Certainly the greatest Afghan woman footballer of all time.\u00a0 <\/span>The Danish Football Association even bent the rules to allow her to play on the Denmark National Team in 2009.\u00a0 <\/span>Playing with Paris Saint-Germain, she won that team the French league title in the 2020-21 season.\u00a0 <\/span>Nadia is also a doctor, currently training to become a surgeon.\u00a0 <\/span>She dreams of returning to Afghanistan one day, to find some closure to her life there.\u00a0 <\/span>This is her amazing story, told in her own words.<\/p>\n

After writing and directing three short films, Anissa Bonnefont<\/b> directed Wonder Boy<\/i> (2020), a highly intimate feature-length documentary portrait of Olivier Rousteing \u2014 the wunderkind<\/i> fashion designer who became creative director of the house of Balmain at 24 \u2014 as he searches to find his birth mother.\u00a0 <\/span>That film was nominated for a C\u00e9sar Award for Best Documentary Film and won the Best Documentary Feature Award at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival.\u00a0 <\/span>Nadia<\/i><\/b> is her second documentary feature.\u00a0 <\/span>Bonnefont is currently in post-production on her first narrative feature film, La Maison<\/i>, an adaptation of a book on the world of sex workers, scheduled for release in France in November.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][mk_image src=”https:\/\/theamericanfrenchfilmfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/nadia_poster-2-manon-cominassi.png” image_size=”full” frame_style=”gray_border” align=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
