The young man turns out to be the son of St\u00e9phane&#8217;s first love, his great love, Thomas Andrieu.\u00a0 The very &#8220;Thomas&#8221; who appears in every one of his novels.\u00a0 Suddenly, all those distant memories come flooding back to him.\u00a0 <\/span><b>Olivier Peyon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;s moving adaptation of Philippe Besson&#8217;s award-winning autobiographical novel of the same name jumps back and forth between 1984 and the present.\u00a0 It is, of course, a story of sexual awakening, and a plaintive memoir on the bittersweet heartbreak of lost love.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also about how shame, hiding, and denying one&#8217;s true self can be a slow-burning death of the soul.\u00a0 And how truth has the power to heal \u2014 maybe not all wounds, but at least a few of the bumps and bruises we accumulate along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After studying economics, writer\/director <\/span><b>Olivier Peyon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> began working as a production assistant on Idrissa Ouedraogo&#8217;s films, and subtitling English-language films in French.\u00a0 He made his first short, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Promis, jur\u00e9<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in 1996.\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jingle Bells<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1997), his second short, was screened at the Venice Film Festival, and was followed by two additional shorts, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00c0 tes amours<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2001) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Claquage apr\u00e8s \u00e9tirements<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2002).\u00a0 He directed the documentary feature <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Comment j&#8217;ai d\u00e9test\u00e9 les maths<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (COLCOA 2014), which was nominated for a C\u00e9sar Award for Best Documentary; and two episodes of the documentary series <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Empreintes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2009-11).
