Julie’s in a race against the clock in <\/span>\u00c9ric Gravel<\/b>‘s kinetic second opus, <\/span>Full Time<\/i><\/b>, which presents the daily routine of a work-a-day mom as a high-stakes intrigue.\u00a0 Nervous, pulsing music building on the soundtrack, its heroine constantly running, the film almost plays like a thriller.\u00a0 But Julie is simply the single mother of two young children, living in the suburbs, with a very long commute back and forth to her demanding job as head chambermaid at a ritzy Paris hotel.\u00a0 She has a lot of balls to keep in the air to make it all work \u2014 convincing her nanny not to quit, making sure her ex sends child support payments on time, planning birthday parties, etc.\u00a0 That’s on a normal day, and not including tending the kids and the pressure she’s under at work.\u00a0 Julie no sooner lands an interview for a plum marketing job more suited to her professional and educational experience… when a general transit strike is announced.\u00a0 Everything grinds to a halt, obstacles multiply, delays and complications snowball… until it’s almost a matter of life and death.\u00a0 As Julie, Laure Calamy’s breathless, pitch-perfect performance keeps us on the edge of our seats from start to finish.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Writer\/director <\/span>\u00c9ric Gravel<\/b> began his career with the short films <\/span>Ce n’\u00e9tait qu’un r\u00eave<\/span><\/i> (2004) and <\/span>Eau Boy<\/span><\/i> (2007). He served as cinematographer on several episodes of the series <\/span>Minuscule<\/span><\/i> in 2012-13. He also worked as second unit director on that same series in 2006, as well as on the series <\/span>Versailles<\/span><\/i> (2015) and the feature <\/span>A Breath Away<\/span><\/i> (2018).\u00a0 In 2017, he wrote and directed his first feature, <\/span>Crash Test Agla\u00e9<\/span><\/i>, about a woman who’s so attached to her job performing car crash tests that she decides to move to India to hold onto it.\u00a0 Gravel’s second feature, <\/span>Full Time<\/i><\/b>, premiered at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, in the Horizons section, which is dedicated to more cutting-edge works, where it snagged both a Best Director prize for Gravel and a Best Actress Award for Laure Calamy, who is probably best known to American audiences as the character of No\u00e9mie on the much-loved Netflix series <\/span>Call My Agent!<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][mk_image src=”https:\/\/theamericanfrenchfilmfestival.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/fulltime.jpg” image_size=”full” frame_style=”gray_border” align=”center”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
