Everybody’s always loved Jeanne.\u00a0 At the moment, however, she pretty much hates herself.\u00a0 On the verge of bankruptcy, still reeling from her mother’s recent suicide, she’s now forced to sell her mom\u2019s Lisbon apartment to pay off her investors.\u00a0 Plagued with insecurities and professionally humiliated, Jeanne has one constant companion \u2013 an inner voice in the form of a hairy little animated ghost, who mercilessly belittles and goads her.\u00a0 On the way to Lisbon, she runs into a guy named Jean at the airport.\u00a0 She’s sure he’s some creep who just wants to chat her up, but he turns out to be a former high school classmate eager to renew their friendship.\u00a0 Because, after all, everybody loves Jeanne!\u00a0 Writer\/director\/animator <\/span>C\u00e9line\u00a0Devaux<\/b>‘s mischievous style, cheeky humor and quirky combination of live action footage and hand drawn animation, coupled with deft performances from a couple of pros like Blanche Gardin and Laurent Lafitte, make this charming anti-romantic comedy about depression an exceedingly uplifting undertaking, after all.<\/span><\/p>\n

C\u00e9line Devaux<\/b> studied at the \u00c9cole nationale sup\u00e9rieure des arts d\u00e9coratifs in Paris (ENSAD), graduating with a degree in film animation.\u00a0 Her thesis film, <\/span>Vie et mort d’Illustre Grigori Efimovitch Raspoutine<\/span><\/i> (2012), garnered numerous festival awards.\u00a0 Her second short, <\/span>Sunday Lunch<\/span><\/i> (2015) was screened in competition in Cannes, and nabbed a C\u00e9sar Award for Best Animated Short Film.
