Actor-turned-director Franck Dubosc delivers a dapper star turn in Rumba Therapy, his second directorial feature, a light-hearted comedy about ballroom dancing, guilt, trying to make amends and, above all, fatherhood. Dubosc plays Tony, a macho middle-aged school bus driver in the provinces with no friends or relations. A sudden heart attack throws him into a tailspin. Tony’s convinced he’s going to die. When his cardiologist (an appropriately droll Michel Houellebecq) warns him, “We all need others. Alone, we’re nothing,” Tony decides to reconnect with the daughter he abandoned twenty years earlier, when she was just a baby. Still a coward, he’s unable to screw up the courage to actually confront her directly. So he decides to sign up for a dance class she’s teaching in Paris. Incognito, of course. To get to know her gradually… in a desperate attempt to give some meaning to his empty life. In the process, he has more than a few dance steps to learn!

Franck Dubosc began his career with small roles on television and played the “French lover” on the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street, in 1987-88. He rose through the ranks as a stand-up comic at various Paris comedy clubs in the ’90s, subsequently writing and starring in five critically-acclaimed one-man shows, presented at bigger and bigger theatrical venues, many of them released on video. He has continued to write comedy material and scripts throughout his career. His big break on the big screen came with the hit comedy Camping (2006) and sequels Camping 2 (2010) and Camping 3 (2016), which he both cowrote and co-starred in. Numerous ensemble comedies followed, including Asterix and the Olympic Games (2008) and The Dream Team (2012). He was also featured as a special guest on Call My Agent! in 2020. He has appeared in 75 feature films, TV series and comedy videos, and has 29 writing credits to his name. In 2018, he wrote, directed and starred in his first feature, Rolling to You. Rumba Therapy, his second directorial effort, opened at the Alpes d’Huez International Comedy Film Festival in January of this year.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][mk_image src=”https://theamericanfrenchfilmfestival.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/rumba_poster-eva-duriez.jpg” image_size=”full” frame_style=”gray_border” align=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
