This breezy confection is the ideal vehicle for actor Alexandra Lamy’s comic madness. Juliette has perfected the art of indecision. At the age of 40, she defers to her father, or her two besties, Joëlle and Sonia, for all of life’s questions, from what to eat for lunch to what to do for a living. When her exasperated fiancé dumps her, Joëlle and Sonia decide that the best thing for her to do is find a new beau immediately. Juliette leans into the task at hand, and is soon rewarded with Etienne, a charming foodie with a well-equipped kitchen. Then disaster strikes, in the form of a Scotsman named Paul. With his lean profile and fat wallet, Paul is every woman’s idea of a catch. To make matters worse, both men make proposals of marriage. When her usual advisors refuse to make the choice for her, Juliette has only one choice left: stall, stall, stall.

DELICIOUS

| 2022 – 102′ – History, Drama, Comedy, French Food & Wine.
Written by: Éric Besnard, Nicolas Boukhrief.

A Samuel Goldwyn Films release. |

Writer/director Éric Besnard’s mouth-watering new historical comedy indelibly pairs Grégory Gadebois and Isabelle Carré as a gifted chef and his unlikely protégé, who must find the resolve to free themselves from servitude. In 1789 France, just prior to the Revolution, gastronomy was strictly the domain of the aristocrats; indeed, the prestige of a noble house is entirely dependent on the quality and reputation of its table. So, when the talented but prideful cook Manceron (Gadebois) serves an unapproved dish of his own creation at a dinner hosted by the self-entitled Duke of Chamfort (C’est La Vie’s Benjamin Lavernhe), the repercussions are brutal, and he is promptly dismissed. The wounded Manceron swears off his passion and retreats with his son to a regional inn visited only infrequently by travellers, and where vegetable soup is the common meal. But when a mysterious woman (Carré) arrives and offers to pay to become his apprentice, the stage is set for a wildly enjoyable tale of reignited passion, mentorship and revenge… and of the creation of France’s very first restaurant. Joining the ranks of films such as Big Night, Chocolat and Babette’s Feast in its joyous depiction of the preparation and love of fine cuisine, DELICIOUS is just that.

Trailer

What makes virtuoso chef Alain Ducasse tick? How did that little boy who grew up on a farm in southwestern France become an innovative, sustainability-conscious culinary master, with 23 restaurants across the globe, 21 Michelin stars and three cooking schools to his name? Gilles de Maistre endeavored to find out, following his fascinating subject to the four corners of the earth for almost two years, in his indefatigable search for perfection. And if this film offers any rationale for Ducasse’s brilliance, it is certainly his endless curiosity, humanity, energy and passion for learning, sniffing, tasting, and eking out the most exquisite of ingredients and flavors. Gorgeously shot for the big screen by the director himself, this absorbing documentary offers a veritable smorgasbord of vicarious delights.
