Dark, taut, mournful, almost elegiac, Arte’s eagerly-awaited mini-series, Haven of Grace, focusing on the sordid underworld on the Le Havre port, borders on Greek tragedy. Pierre Leprieur, dock worker and former union organizer, has spent his life trying to keep the docks clean. On the evening of his sixtieth birthday, each of his two sons are arrested and accused of drug trafficking. Pierre is convinced that he’s being targeted, and risks everything to save them. But the truth is more than thorny… and it’s time for Pierre to take stock of his life. This hauntingly directed thriller boasts stunning performances by a stellar ensemble cast and, at times, truly takes our breath away. The series premiered at this year’s Series Mania Festival, where Margot Bancilhon walked off with the Best Actress Award.
Co-showrunner Maxime Crupaux has been a writer on several TV series, including Research Unit (2014), Captain Sharif (2016), Super Jimmy (2019) and Année Zéro (2023). Co-showrunner Baptiste Fillon published his first novel, Après l’équateur, in 2014. He co-wrote the short film The Last of Us: All Gone, which garnered an Individual Achievement in Screenwriting Southern Shorts Award. Director Vincent Maël Cardona‘s short Coucou-les-Nuages (2010) was featured in the Cannes Cinefondation student short competition and received a Best Screenplay Award at the La Cabina Valencia Film Festival. Magnetic Beats (COLCOA 2021), his first feature, premiered in the Director’s Fortnight in Cannes, where it was honored with the SACD Prize, awarded by the French Writers’ Guild, and went on to win the Prix d’Ornano-Valenti in Deauville and a César Award for Best First Film.
