From legendary Academy Award®-winning writer/director Costa-Gavras (Missing, Z) comes Capital, a fast-paced, darkly comic, suspenseful drama set in the high stakes world of global finance. When the CEO of France’s Phenix Bank collapses on the golf course, Machiavellian young executive Marc Tourneuil (Gad Elmaleh, Midnight in Paris) is crowned as his replacement. A whirlwind of ruthless ambition, power struggles, greed and deception ensues as Tourneuil’s brutal ascent is jeopardized by a hostile takeover attempt from a large American hedge fund led by Dittmar Rigule (Gabriel Byrne, Vikings, In Treatment), erotic distractions from international supermodel Nassim (Liya Kebede), and adversaries with an agenda for destruction. Capital is a pointed commentary on how the Darwinian world of contemporary capitalism plays itself out across the global financial stage. Based on the book Le Capital by Stéphane Osmont, the film is directed by Costa-Gavras and written by Costa-Gavras, Jean-Claude Grumberg and Karim Boukercha. The film also stars Natacha Regnier and Celine Sallette.

Simon Carrerra has just been released from prison and is now on parole. His old pal Albert entices him to renew his career in crime with a big- time heist of a celebrated diamond in Antwerp. This involves a mafia- style boss and a complicated robbery in a luxury hotel in Antwerp during the auction of the diamond. The “Florentine” is an historic jewel owned by Marie Neuville and her daughter Julia, two diamond experts. Marie Neuville’s sudden death puts Julia in charge of the sale. Because she’s young and inexperienced, she’ll encounter some flack. But, she’s determined. In Antwerp, Simon, posing as a friend of her mother’s and an expert in security, meets Julia. Slowly but surely, the two become closer… perhaps too close… He manages to get a double to the key, essential for the robbery. Simon has no choice but to betray Julia. The heist is a success. However, Scylla unexpectedly enacts a hidden part of his plan. He gets rid of his accomplices and makes it look like the diamond has disappeared in the ocean during what seems to be vengeance murder. But Simon and Albert escape the massacre in extremis. Discovering that Julia is being accused of complicity and that the death of her mother was linked to Scylla’s gang, Simon decides to take action: He’ll help Julia get the diamond back and avenge her mother’s death…

Estranged from his family and now living abroad, dedicated geologist Julien receives a phone message from his ex-wife, Marie, announcing that their 7-year-old son has disappeared while on a camping trip in the woods. Wracked with guilt and desperate to find his son, Julien frantically plunges into that mission with a vengeance. Guillaume Canet gives the film a taut, seething edge, as Julien, and Melanie Laurent is moving as his grieving wife, Marie. Perhaps most compelling is the fact that director Christian Carion devised a plan whereby Canet improvised his scenes, in chronological order, not knowing what was in store for him at each narrative turn — a tactic that injects the thriller with enormous tension and suspense.

Al, a young man from a modest background, is ten days away from marrying the daughter of his boss, along with succeeding him as the head of the car dealership where Al has been working for most of his life. One night, while coming back drunk from his bachelor party, Al commits a hit-and-run when he hits a man by accident and is urged to leave the scene of the crime by his two childhood friends who are with him in the car. The next day, gnawed by guilt, he decides to go to the hospital to inquire anonymously about his victim. What he does not know is that the entire accident was witnessed from a balcony by a young woman, Juliette, who is going through her own emotional upheavals. Juliette not only called 911, but also helped to contact the victim’s wife, Véra, a Moldavian illegal immigrant whom she decides to help and keep company at the hospital. But when Juliette recognizes Al as the reckless driver in the hospital corridor, for some reason she is unable to denounce him. Gradually they get to know each other better through more frequent meetings and phone calls, and Juliette becomes a mediator between Al and the unsuspecting Véra. However, things get complicated when romantic feelings between Juliette and Al start to arise, and Véra finally finds out about their secret relationship.

But in order to leave, Alex must quickly find enough money and accomplish his “aliyah” (the term for Jews emigrating to Israel) which involves, among other things, Hebrew lessons and connecting with his Jewish roots. He also has to leave behind his beloved city of Paris, his former lover Esther, his lifelong friend Mathias, and Jeanne, a woman whom he’s just met but has the potential of becoming someone important in his life. Trailer

Before the subprime mortgage crisis began unfolding in 2008, causing chaos in world markets and misery among millions of homeowners, another financial apocalypse was already underway at one of France’s most prestigious banks. And only one man, a young trader, is the alleged responsible for the first and most extravagant in a series of scandals that will shake the financial markets worldwide: Jérôme Kerviel. Indeed, the biggest banking loss of its kind in history (almost 5 billion Euros) is discovered at the French bank Société Générale and soon attributed to this quiet, low-profile, 31 years old employee…Hired as a simple clerk at the same bank, 8 years before, no one could have predicted that Jérôme Kerviel would go so far, so fast. He became the star of the trading floor, nicknamed “the cash machine” by his colleagues. When all was said and done, the bank suffered a loss of €4.9 billion and Kerviel was fired, sued, arrested and imprisoned, becoming the most famous Frenchman to ever sit in front of a Bloomberg Terminal and pay the price for it. Christophe Barratier (‘THE CHORUS’) tells the true story of France’s greatest financial scandal.
